The reason that I chose the logos and items on my mood board is I believe that it represents different aspects of the school. For example, the football and cricket badge in the top corners represents those who participate in sports in and outside of school. Then there’s a selection of film banners at the top which is there to show a wide variety of film genre watched by people in this school. Then around the school badge is a variety of social media logos which is there as multiple people in this school will use their social media on a daily basis. I also included ways for people to watch media on their by putting on the Netflix and Now TV logo. Also I have featured the you tube logo on my mood board as it’s a popular medium that some people will watch videos on or upload their own videos onto. I have also included some iconic brands along the bottom as they are very well known and most people have their products.

Why I chose Media Studies

What do I think I will Gain?

I decided to choose media studies as it is a subject that seemed very intriguing to me as I wanted to understand in greater detail; why the media has become such a cornerstone of modern society, a company’s subtext when using social media and their ulterior motives, also I would like to understand why companies do the things they do with their media and how you can use media to appeal to your chosen target audience. Another one reason I am interested is due to the fact it is integral in modern society and I am interested in understanding that in greater detail. I also believe I would have a greater understanding of how people have become so attached to their social media. Also in films and TV I would like to understand why a director might do the things they do in a film or show and how that appeals to their target audience. I also believe that studying media will provide me with a greater understanding of how modern society has adapted to it and seems to be focused on it.

Do you have a current interest in the media and how it works?

I am interested in media as I want to understand why a company like Apple would advertise a new product to make it appear more enticing to the customer, how they use social media to market it and how they use media to distinguish their target audience. I also am interested in the media as I would like to understand how the media can be used by brands and companies to sell their products. I’m interested in how people generally use their media to interact with people and inform people what they are doing.

How do I interact on a daily basis?

I interact with media in several ways daily by either watching television as companies will either have adverts in between the show or will pay the show or film for product placements. Another way which I interact with the media would be when I’m on social media, for example on something like snapchat they have articles provided from companies like sky news which in turn will inform people and update them on what’s going on in the world but they also feature adverts in between which again will promote a company’s products. A final way I interact with media is by using computer games and consoles.

Other Information

I wanted to study media at A-level as it is a subject that has a lot to offer as it teaches people how media has integrated itself into modern society and how it has people continually using it to the point of obsession and as media has become so important now I believe that learning about it will teach several life skills that are important in things business. Also as the media is important in most aspects of work now if you have an education in media it will help you in your work place as you can help with marketing decisions
